Apollo Docking Probe
  • Digital model of the Apollo Command Module docking probe, being fabricated as a full scale model.
  • Allowed the Apollo Command Service Module to dock with the Lunar Module.
  • Blue parts are handles which the astronaut would use to operate the probe.
  • The docking probe mounted in the apex, or nose, of the Command module within the docking tunnel.
  • Once docked, astronauts would fold and remove the docking probe to allow passage through the docking tunnel.
  • Modeled using SolidWorks, based on hundreds of dimensioned North American Aviation engineering drawings.
  • Start of the full scale model with 3D printed plastic parts.
  • First fully finished parts (see below for views of additional parts).
