Used on the lunar missions to darken the cabin interior.
On Skylab flights it protected the inside of the Command Module from excess solar radiation during the lengthy missions.
Made of aluminum carefully machined to reduce weight.
Outside
is painted white. A rubber seal prevents light leakage.
